Dir

A directory capability. Obtained from datumhue.args.dirs[name], datumhue.package:dir(), an open_button pick, or dir:subdir(rel). Relative paths must stay inside the directory — .., absolute paths, and symlinks that escape the root are all rejected.

Obtained from
Package:dir, datumhue.args
Accepted by
datumhue.app.spawn, UiElement:open_button, UiElement:save_button

Fields 1

FieldTypeAccessDescription
namestringread-onlyThe user-facing alias for this directory, never a host path.

Methods 14

Dir:list

method
Dir:list() -> ListFetch

Direct-child names, sorted ascending.

Example
dir:write("b.txt", datumhue.bytes("2")):ready()
dir:write("a.txt", datumhue.bytes("1")):ready()
local names = dir:list():ready().value
print(table.concat(names, ", ")) --> a.txt, b.txt

Dir:read

method
Dir:read(rel: string) -> Bytes

Return a file-backed Bytes handle for the file at rel under the directory, at once; the file is read when a decoder method runs, or when the handle is awaited.

Example
dir:write("scores.json", datumhue.bytes.json({ best = 42 })):ready()
-- Nothing is read until a decoder runs.
local scores = dir:read("scores.json"):json()
print(scores.best) --> 42

Dir:stat

method
Dir:stat(rel: string) -> Stat

Metadata for rel; a missing rel fails the operation.

Example
dir:write("log.txt", datumhue.bytes("hello")):ready()
local info = dir:stat("log.txt"):ready()
print(info.kind, info.size) --> file 5

Dir:exists

method
Dir:exists(rel: string) -> BoolFetch

Whether rel exists. Only unexpected failures fail the operation.

Dir:create_file

method
Dir:create_file(rel: string) -> Op

Create an empty file at rel. Requires rw mode. An already-existing file fails the operation.

Dir:mkdir

method
Dir:mkdir(rel: string) -> Op

Create a directory at rel. Requires rw mode.

Dir:remove

method
Dir:remove(rel: string) -> Op

Remove a file or empty directory at rel. Requires rw mode.

Dir:write

method
Dir:write(rel: string, bytes: Bytes) -> Op

Overwrite rel with bytes. Requires rw mode. A string is not accepted; wrap it with datumhue.bytes first. The write starts immediately; :ready() observes completion or failure.

Example
-- Wrap text in bytes; a plain string is not accepted.
dir:write("hello.txt", datumhue.bytes("Hello")):ready()
dir:write("save.json", datumhue.bytes.json({ level = 3 })):ready()
print(dir:read("hello.txt"):text()) --> Hello

Dir:mode

method
Dir:mode() -> app.PreopenMode

The directory's access mode.

Dir:open

method
Dir:open(rel: string) -> File

Mint a new file capability rooted at rel within this directory. Returns immediately; the handle inherits the parent dir's mode.

Example
dir:create_file("log.txt"):ready()
local log = dir:open("log.txt")
log:write(datumhue.bytes("started")):ready()
print(log.name) --> notes/log.txt

Dir:subdir

method
Dir:subdir(rel: string) -> Dir

Mint a narrowed directory capability rooted at rel inside this dir. The returned handle sees only files under its own root.

Dir:require

methodsuspends
Dir:require(rel: string) -> any

Load the Lua module at exactly rel under the directory and run it once; repeat calls with the same rel hand back the same value. Returns the module's first return value, or true if it returned nothing. A compiled chunk loads only from the Lua files of a sealed package; anywhere else it raises.

Example
dir:write("util.lua", datumhue.bytes("return { answer = 42 }")):ready()
local util = dir:require("util.lua")
print(util.answer) --> 42
-- A second require hands back the same value.
print(dir:require("util.lua") == util) --> true

Dir:load_package

methodsuspends
Dir:load_package(rel: string) -> Package

Load the package at rel under this directory: a regular file loads as a package archive, and a directory as a package folder, which must follow the package layout.

Example
local manifest = [[
name "@me/tools"
version "1.2.0"
api_version "*"
kind "library"
]]
dir:mkdir("tools"):ready()
dir:write("tools/package.kdl", datumhue.bytes(manifest)):ready()
local tools = dir:load_package("tools")
print(tools.name, tools:version()) --> @me/tools 1.2.0

Dir:book

methodsuspends
Dir:book() -> Book

Load the book rooted at this directory: book.kdl names the title and chapters, each a page file inside the directory. Raises with file:line:col diagnostics on parse or validation errors.

Example
local contents = [[
title "Field notes"
chapter "Birds" file="birds.md"
]]
dir:write("book.kdl", datumhue.bytes(contents)):ready()
dir:write("birds.md", datumhue.bytes("# Birds\n\nA robin.\n")):ready()
local book = dir:book()
print(book.pages, book.title) --> 1 Field notes

SIL OPEN FONT LICENSE Version 1.1 - 26 February 2007
-----------------------------------------------------------

PREAMBLE
The goals of the Open Font License (OFL) are to stimulate worldwide
development of collaborative font projects, to support the font creation
efforts of academic and linguistic communities, and to provide a free and
open framework in which fonts may be shared and improved in partnership
with others.

The OFL allows the licensed fonts to be used, studied, modified and
redistributed freely as long as they are not sold by themselves. The
fonts, including any derivative works, can be bundled, embedded,
redistributed and/or sold with any software provided that any reserved
names are not used by derivative works. The fonts and derivatives,
however, cannot be released under any other type of license. The
requirement for fonts to remain under this license does not apply
to any document created using the fonts or their derivatives.

DEFINITIONS
"Font Software" refers to the set of files released by the Copyright
Holder(s) under this license and clearly marked as such. This may
include source files, build scripts and documentation.

"Reserved Font Name" refers to any names specified as such after the
copyright statement(s).

"Original Version" refers to the collection of Font Software components as
distributed by the Copyright Holder(s).

"Modified Version" refers to any derivative made by adding to, deleting,
or substituting -- in part or in whole -- any of the components of the
Original Version, by changing formats or by porting the Font Software to a
new environment.

"Author" refers to any designer, engineer, programmer, technical
writer or other person who contributed to the Font Software.

PERMISSION & CONDITIONS
Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining
a copy of the Font Software, to use, study, copy, merge, embed, modify,
redistribute, and sell modified and unmodified copies of the Font
Software, subject to the following conditions:

1) Neither the Font Software nor any of its individual components,
in Original or Modified Versions, may be sold by itself.

2) Original or Modified Versions of the Font Software may be bundled,
redistributed and/or sold with any software, provided that each copy
contains the above copyright notice and this license. These can be
included either as stand-alone text files, human-readable headers or
in the appropriate machine-readable metadata fields within text or
binary files as long as those fields can be easily viewed by the user.

3) No Modified Version of the Font Software may use the Reserved Font
Name(s) unless explicit written permission is granted by the corresponding
Copyright Holder. This restriction only applies to the primary font name as
presented to the users.

4) The name(s) of the Copyright Holder(s) or the Author(s) of the Font
Software shall not be used to promote, endorse or advertise any
Modified Version, except to acknowledge the contribution(s) of the
Copyright Holder(s) and the Author(s) or with their explicit written
permission.

5) The Font Software, modified or unmodified, in part or in whole,
must be distributed entirely under this license, and must not be
distributed under any other license. The requirement for fonts to
remain under this license does not apply to any document created
using the Font Software.

TERMINATION
This license becomes null and void if any of the above conditions are
not met.
